MINUTES OF JUNE 29th 2008 MEETING
The RGVAHC monthly meeting for June was held at 4 p.m., Sunday, June 29th, 2008 at Rising K Arabians (home of Yvonne and Ric Knowland) of Harlingen. Rising K Arabians is a Discovery Farm of the Arabian Horse Association. Those in attendance were: Mary Kralovec, Yvonne and Ric Knowland, Janie Levine, Mary Barkkari, Dr. and Mrs. Glen Thomason, the Frantz family(8) and Marlene Foale.
A tour of the barn and horses and a potluck meal preceded the meeting.
President Yvonne called the meeting to order. Minutes were approved as presented on our website.
Mary Barkkari gave a treasurer's report of $1,665.11 in the bank. Our last show, at the Rodriguez Arena, was a success. A check in the amount of $291.60 was written to the Rodriguez Arena as their share of the net profit. Sharon immediately wrote the club a check for $100 as a donation. Sharon also reported that a couple from Fun & Sun cooked and served food at her team penning jamboree and were well received. We will be contacting these same people to serve at our next show.
Mary B. asked for permission to pay in full the balance due for insurance for our next two shows, in the amount of $200. This action was approved.
It was discussed, for next year, that those persons going for year-end high-point awards be required to work from 2 to 4 hours during the year in order to be eligible, or to have someone work in their stead.
Donations are needed for year-end awards. Yvonne will do a letter for members to present to donors and the donors will also be posted on our website.
It was also suggested that show bills be mailed out to all previous entries approximately three weeks prior to the show.
A review of the show bill was discussed and those classes that did not have entries were removed and will be reinstated when interest is shown. A new visitor to our club and now a resident, formerly from California, has agreed to do a reining exhibition at our next show.
Marlene reported that she has requested that Georgette Solis be our next judge. We are hoping to hear positively from her soon.
A discussion of very humorous horse tales followed. Those not at the meeting missed some good laughs - too bad it wasn't recorded for future use. So, with great stories, good food, and a preview of Rising K Arabian Discovery Farm, the meeting was brought to a close. Next meeting is scheduled for the last Sunday in July. A volunteer host is being sought, hopefully from the upper Valley this time. Call Marlene at 458-9679 to volunteer, PLEASE.
