MINUTES from MAY 25, 2008
The Rio Grande Valley Arabian Horse Club held their May monthly meeting in Weslaco at 4 p.m. in Luby's Cafeteria. Those attending the meeting Sunday were: Yvonne and Rick Knowland, Gloria Estrada, Mary Barkkari, Alayne Villarreal and Caroline, and Marlene Foale.
President, Yvonne, called the meeting to order. Minutes of previous meeting were approved and seconded, as posted on the web site.
Mary Barkkari reported that the Horse Show, on May 24, was successful and that the new location at Rodriquez Family Arena is very satisfactory.
A discussion of the horse show and ways to improve followed. The most critical aspect was the shortage of volunteers. It was decided to put on the show bill that NO FOOD WILL BE AVAILABLE, and encourage participants to bring their own food. WATER will be available for sale, and a full hour will be provided for lunch.
Next shows are October 4, and November 8, 2008 at the same location. Stalls will be available on a first-come basis.... bring your own shavings and buckets. This will also be indicated on the show bill.
New fees will be printed on the show bill: class entry fee - $8.00 - office and record fee - $9.00, and a $25 late fee (if entry not received by Sept. 20 (for Oct. 4 show). Every rider is eligible for high point. Also, tickets will be provided for those first place winners to be used to pick out their grab bag prize.
New NUMBERS will be provided at each show. Show bills will be mailed to those who have participated, as well as being posted on the web site.
Youth Day will be 6/28/08 - a Saturday, at Alayne Villarreal's, beginning at 9 a.m. - the Topic will be First Aid and this is available to all the youth. Alayne also announced a garage sale on October 18th at Jami's in McAllen.
Donations are needed to help support show - gift certificates is one good idea. Donors will be posted on our web site to thank them.
At our next meeting, we need to plan our show dates for 2009.
Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Marlene Foale, Secretary
